Talented local young people get a chance to shine on Monday, May 19, when the Syracuse Area Live Theatre Youth (SALTY) Awards are presented.

The awards program, now in its third year, recognizes student contributions to scholastic and community theater. It’s a night when young actors and actresses deliver performances from their nominated shows and accept awards onstage at the New Times Theater, located in the Art and Home Center at the State Fairgrounds.

A pre-show dessert reception, included in the ticket price, begins at 6 p.m. The awards show takes place at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $8 and some can be obtained in advance through a nominated school or community theater group. A very limited number of unreserved tickets may be available at the door on May 19. SALTY organizers recommend appearing at the theater by 5 p.m., since those tickets will be first-come, first-served, cash-only sales; last year the event sold out. Reservations may not be made in advance, but you can get more information about SALTYs by calling 449-0648 or go to the Family Times home page for SALTYs link.

SALTY-eligible productions include the following:

High Schools

Theater Companies

Honors will be given in the following categories; nominees must be chosen from SALTY-registered groups only.
