Champion for Children
Family Times and its sister publication, the Syracuse New Times, support many charitable organizations through donations of cash and advertising. One nonprofit organization, Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, recognized the company’s efforts on Oct. 26 by giving Family Times and the Syracuse New Times a certificate for their role as a Media Champion.
The certificate was presented by Toni Gary, community relations director of the Upstate Medical University Foundation and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, to Bill Brod, publisher and owner of both publications. In giving the certificate, Gary spoke of the magazine and newspaper’s support of such local fund-raisers as the Father-Daughter Valentine Ball, the Miracle Ride and Paige’s Butterfly Run.
“This advertising allowed the foundation to reach many readers and in turn generate more sponsors and donors for these events,” Gary said. The certificate’s presentation took place at the sixth annual Golisano Children’s Hospital Day, at which people and organizations in seven categories were honored. “We recognize individuals and community groups and business partners that have made a difference in the lives of children because of their support of Golisano Children’s Hospital,” Gary wrote in an email describing the event.
